Colorado’s libraries are governed both by some of the original state laws dating back to the 1860’s and many of the same statutes that apply to other forms of Colorado local governments. We understand the unique library district laws and handle all aspects of general counsel work for libraries, from personnel matters and labor laws, to federal law matters such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and intellectual freedom as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. We draft intergovernmental agreements, contracts and policies, and assist our library clients with financing, TABOR elections, real property acquisitions and construction projects and understanding and implementing the meetings laws and open records laws.
We serve as general or special counsel to the following libraries:
- Clear Creek County Library District
- Rangely Regional Library District
- Eagle Valley Library District
- Park County Public Library
- Pueblo City-County Library District
- Mancos Library District
